DALL SHEEP PHOTO SAFARI
Nakina Adventures offers you life-changing wilderness adventures “off the beaten trail”. For guests joining us on this adventure, we guarantee your experience will be exclusive, engaging and unforgettable.
A MYSTICAL BEAST THE COLOR OF SNOW
No other animal symbolizes the rugged beauty of the Yukon better than the charismatic Dall sheep. Their massive horns and supreme agility in rugged terrain are the basis for your opportunity to photograph a herd of these magnificent creatures on this safari.
THE KINGDOM OF THE DALL SHEEP
Like most herd animals, Dall sheep are prey animals, therefore, excellent opportunities exist to see opportunistic predators such as grizzly bears, wolves, coyotes, and wolverine.
SHEEP AND GORGEOUS LANDSCAPES – THE BEST OF BOTH PHOTO WORLDS
Sheep are a very photogenic and accommodating wildlife and when you have a good position on them, the backgrounds you can place the sheep against are absolutely stunning!
LATE FALL AND EARLY WINTER
Watch in awe as the rams rear up on their hind legs and clash their enormous horns together in dramatic tests of dominance. This is the time of the exciting “pre-rut”, a prelude to their mating season. Eventually the champion rams disperse from their bachelor groups and join the ewes in a lengthy and sensational display of courtship.
SPRING – A MARVELOUS TIME TO BE ON THE SHEEP RANGE
Join us for this excellent opportunity to observe and photograph nature’s true and raw survival mechanisms at work. Witness and welcome the delightful additions to the sheep population as the ewes give birth to their tiny lambs.
NOT AN ATHLETE OR A MOUNTAIN CLIMBER? NO PROBLEM!
Let the sheep do the climbing. Sheep are mountain dwellers and are often gazing down at us from their rock ledges and mountain slopes. If you are able to hike for a kilometer on a slight grade, you will have close encounters for stunning photos.
GREAT PHOTOGRAPHIC OPPORTUNITIES
The subjects, backgrounds and light in this area make these sheep trips high on every photographers list. Our knowledgeable staff will be more than happy to provide advice and instruction for photographers or individual guests wanting to hone their photography skills.
TRADITIONAL COMFORT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
A long day in sheep habitat can be both exhilarating and challenging. You will deserve a hot and hardy supper and a good night’s sleep in your cozy and warm cabin. The only thing that may keep you up a bit longer is a special appearance of Aurora in the starlit Yukon sky.
